Externships!

I am breathing a HUGE sigh of relief right now! Kevin's last year and half of grad school is all externships! Meaning we will be living out of our suitcases and a few other boxes (kitchen stuff perhaps) for that last year and a half!

I am probably more nervous about this than anything! Kevin has to do 5 externships and each one is about 3 months long! This means that by the time I make friends in one place, we will be moving, and getting a job will be hard because we are only there for 3 months...So it could be really depressing and hard, but I'm trying to make the most of it.

Anyway, at the beginning of the year Kevin was given a list of externship sites to choose from around the country. He had to contact the doctors that he was interested in and then choose his first site. The first site we chose was one in Arizona. It was on a Air Force Base and the learning experience from it looked promising! However, another student wanted that site too, so the school put us on a lottery. So we had 50/50 chance of getting it. Unfortunatly, we lost...so we had to pick another site (and there weren't many left because a bunch of students already got theirs!) This time, we picked a site located in Clinton, Maryland because it was in between both of our siblings and we figured this could help us financially and my sanity! Later, Kevin researched the doctor just to check out what other students had to say about him. He had great ratings and he is a "Vision source" doctor which is what Kevin went to the other month for his optometry conference. Plus, he is the President elect of the Maryland optometric association! He has also worked with congress....and I'm sure there is more I am missing. Anyway, he's a great doctor and Kevin could learn a lot from him.

Again, another student also wanted this site, so we were put on a lottery. This made me more nervous than ever since we had already lost a site. So, we decided to fast and pray that we could get this site. Honestly, we fasted two sundays in a row...that's how bad we wanted it!

Anyway,Kevin went in to pick from the lottery (they had to pick ping pong balls and everything)between his classmate, and he WON!!!!!

So we're going to Clinton, Maryland for our first externship site! WE ARE SOOOO EXCITED!
